Odd how they timed the announcement so that almost all of our options for quick fill-ins are now committed elsewhere. Why no heads up?
We'll definitely miss Travis next season.

I am really sort of torn on the situation. Obviously, we will have big holes now in our back-up post positions for next year. It definitely would have been nice if they had done this right after the season (or at least indicated it might be a possibility). I still figure we will grab someone. On the message boards everyone is wanting that Jack kid. Something tells me we might be able to get him.
In another way, this might end up working out for us in the long run. We have to face the fact that both of these guys were basically the same player (although D. Wear seemed to want to shoot from outside more). I doubt that either ever develop into being a top-level player, wherever they go. My hope is that we replace them with post players next year, who could prove to be much stronger contributors. I guess time will tell....

I think they're both pansies who didn't have the class to call Roy themselves or see him face-to-face

it's true that we didn't need 2 of the same mediocre player. i don't recall what the other recruiting options were at the time, but i never really thought that they'd produce much since they were competing for the same minutes.

I am definitely glad that we got that Knox kid. I do not think that he is going to be the greatest player of all-time...but he surely has some experience and a big body. I think that he should be a strong rebounder for us. Not to mention the fact that we do not know if Big Z can make it through an entire season yet, so having only he and Henson would have been very problematic. I also like the fact that Knox is essentially "free" since his scholarship is only for this next season.
As for McAdoo, I am on the fence. I hope that he could come in and contribute, but I fear that he might get discouraged with how things go. But I could be wrong and he might make an impact for us. I am sure if Roy wants him to come in, then it is likely he thinks he can go next year. If he does play next year...then it really could yield big rewards the following season, because he will have a firm grasp of the season and what Roy expects....
I guess we will see. Overall I am glad that Roy has not gone on a wild hunt for players, just to bring in someone like Justin Watts to basically waste a scholarship. I am guessing that he is not really high on the Jack kid, or that guy cannot get into school...
What do you guys feel about it all?

yeah, i'm glad we got knox. regardless of what contribution he is able to make in the box score, at least we're not starting "the colonel". i have no problem with getting mcadoo early, BUT only if he is "truly" ready to contribute. he looks the part from what i've seen, but that doesn't mean a whole lot. dawkins was supposed to be some great scorer, but really didn't do too much. if mcadoo is ready, i'd rather have him at UNC for 2+ years, rather than a minimum of one (not that, given our team, he'd really be a candidate for 1 and done).
generally though, i don't like setting that kind of precendent for future HS players. it's getting kind of rediculous, and hurting the competitiveness of the top leagues. one year a team is phenomenal, the next year half the team leaves. it's almost like buying a championship in MLB.

I think you meant to say "ridiculous" as opposed to "REDiculous"

"having said that," do we still want this McAdoo kid for this season? Is it too early? Czar, what are people saying on the message boards?

They mostly say what Steve says... A guaranteed two years would be great from a guy that has almost 0% chance of being a four year player if he doesn't get hurt.
